ABOUT US
Who we are!
Pine Rivers Pumas Rugby Union Club is a local rugby club in the Moreton Bay Region. Our family friendly club prides itself on providing a fun and safe environment for children aged 3 to 16 years old to enjoy playing rugby.
Our History
Established in 1985, the Pumas has a proud tradition of offering participants the opportunity to play rugby at a welcoming and family orientated club.
Starting out with no Clubhouse, fields or jerseys, the Pumas used the local show grounds as their home grounds. The Pumas moved to take up two fields at the Les Hughes Sports Complex, which were originally leased from the Pine Rivers Shire Council in January 1987. The building of the Clubhouse commenced in October 1989 and was completed in 1990 as funds became available. Thirty-four years later, 2021 saw the Pumas move into a new clubhouse co-located with Pine Rivers Rapids Baseball Club and the addition of another field.
The club’s name and colours came about when Los Pumas (the National team of Argentina) accepted our offer to use our playing fields for training grounds during the 1987 Rugby World Cup. We continue to maintain a relationship with Union Argentina de Rugby today, with our club members being invited to run out onto the field with Los Pumas at the beginning of their test match at Suncorp Stadium in 2019 and form a guard of honour at the start of their game in 2021.
