A day of Rugby

On Sunday 19th of March, Rugby came to Pine Rivers!

Firstly, we kicked it off in the morning with a BJRU GEM Skills Session running from 9-10am. These have been designed to give girls playing the XVs GEM series (Under 11’s to Under 18’s) in term 2/3 dedicated skills session to prepare them for the upcoming season. Joined by Red’s Women’s players and some passionate coaches these sessions cover all the skills including lifting in a line out, scrum formation and general ball skills. As girls and women’s rugby is still developing in Queensland, these sessions help promote the sport and allow certain drills and skills to be developed in the girls in a fun and friendly environment. As the competition is comprised of barbarian teams it also allows coaches to determine the best fit of players to ensure a smooth, well run and fun competition for all.

Once the girls left the field, the boys came out to play with 4 back to back Junior Colt games being played on 2 fields. This saw 16 teams battling it out to determine which teams would progress up the ladder to play in the grand final being played at Norths Rugby Union Club on the 26th of March.

So a jammed packed day full of rugby saw the club humming with activity. The BBQ was in full swing and a great bunch of volunteers could be seen throughout the day working the canteen, rocking the orange field marshal vests and generally enjoying the action on the fields.
